The Best Bars in Princeton, New Jersey
Princeton, New Jersey is home to one of the most famous universities in the world: Princeton University. In many ways, Princeton is the quintessential college town. And no college town is complete without a bar scene.
After dining at one of Princeton’s restaurants or catching a show at the McCarter Theatre, having a drink at one of Princeton’s bars is an enjoyable way to end the evening. Princeton’s history and personality can be felt in its bars, restaurants, and other venues. Below are five of our favorite bars in Princeton.
Triumph Brewing Company
The Triumph Brewing Company is a restaurant and brewery with two locations: one in Princeton and one in New Hope, PA. Both locations offer house-made craft beer, modern American cuisine, and live music on weekends. One of their signature beers, the Bengal Gold IPA, is a nod to Princeton University’s mascot, the tiger.
The Yankee Doodle Tap Room
Located inside the historic Nassau Inn, the Yankee Doodle Tap Room offers craft beer, food, and live music in a cozy setting. An original Norman Rockwell painting adorns the bar and a stone hearth dating to 1756 sets the atmosphere for the tavern. The walls are adorned with Princeton University memorabilia, including photographs of famous alumni like Michelle Obama.
This small, green building offers casual beer, mixed drinks, and pub food for reasonable prices. On certain nights, guests can enjoy live music or karaoke at the Ivy Inn. Like the Triumph Brewing Company and the Yankee Doodle Tap Room, the Ivy Inn makes reference to Princeton University. Here, it is the nod to the Ivy League in its name.
At Main Street, guests can enjoy European-American cuisine in a warm bistro setting. At the bar, hand-selected wines, premium European beers, and local micro-brews are available to taste and enjoy. Main Street has earned the reputation of being Princeton’s local go-to spot because of its affordable prices and casual atmosphere.
The Dinky Bar and Kitchen
Another Princeton institution, the Dinky Bar and Kitchen has a long history. It is located in the original structure where passengers waited to board the train, known as the “Dinky Station” because of its size. Today, it is not far from the train station or Princeton University’s campus.
The Dinky Bar and Kitchen serves primarily bar snacks and small plates with a focus on locally-sourced, simple ingredients. It has a list of handcrafted house cocktails and also offers draft and bottled beer and wine by the glass, bottle, or carafe.
