Summer at the Jersey Shore is not complete without ice cream. Whether you are out on a date, entertaining friends or relatives from out of state, or just looking for some sweet relief after a long, hot day, ice cream is always the answer.

Manalapan Township is located between the municipalities of Freehold Township, Englishtown, Marlboro Township, Applegarth, Monroe Township, and many other smaller communities. These communities are not far from each other, so we have included ice cream shops in Manalapan as well as neighboring towns. Below are our picks for the top five ice cream shops in the Manalapan area. Be sure to check each shop’s hours before you go – many of these shops have different hours for summer than for the rest of the year and some have different weekday and weekend hours.

Jake’s Cree-Mee Freeze

Since 1991, Jake’s Cree-Mee Freeze has been a Manalapan institution right on Route 33. At Jake’s, you can get premium soft serve, hard ice cream, non-fat frozen yogurt, and house favorites like shakes, malts, and the Jersey Shore classic, vanilla and orange twist on a cone. If you are heading to Jake’s Cree-Mee Freeze, remember to take cash because they do not accept credit cards.

Jersey Freeze

Like Jake’s, Jersey Freeze on Manalapan Avenue in Freehold is cash only. Unlike Jake’s, Jersey Freeze has a full menu so you can have lunch or dinner, then ice cream for dessert. Jersey Freeze offers homemade ice cream cake, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cupcakes, and other novelty items. Jersey Freeze is a Monmouth County classic that dates back to 1952.

Four Boys Ice Cream Shop

Four Boys Ice Cream Shop on Tennent Avenue in Englishtown is actually one of four Four Boys Ice Cream Shop locations in Central New Jersey. Four Boys began as an ice cream truck and opened as a brick and mortar location in 2005. Four Boys frequently attends local festivals and other events as an ice cream vendor.

Olivia’s Ice Cream

A bit further west on Route 33, you will reach Olivia’s Ice Cream. This unpretentious walk-up in Millstone Township offers ice cream and frozen yogurt with ample outdoor seating space overlooking open fields. Remember to bring cash to Olivia’s because it does not accept credit cards.

Haagen-Dazs

In the nearby Freehold Raceway Mall, Haagen-Dazs serves up luxurious sundaes, shakes, ice cream bars, and traditional scoops of ice cream and sorbet in a modern, upscale setting. Haagen-Dazs prides itself on using only five ingredients in a few of its classic favorites, creating bold flavors with a natural, simple feel.
